Joining MakersType

Thank you so much for your interest in sharing your work on MakersType!

We are working hard to develop an environment to support font designers in creation, distribution, and sales for all kinds of fonts. Whether you are a new designer, have been out of the game for a while, or are a veteran, we want you in our community.

First off, we take designers’ rights seriously. Because of that, no font on MakersType should be uploaded by anyone but the designer or someone with direct written permission from the designer. This is very important to us, as many of the people that helped start this site have had others distribute, use, and even sell their work without permission. We want to change that narrative. It’s a big part of why we exist!

If you would like to submit a font, but are not the designer (or have written permission to do so), we ask you not to apply, but to take some time to learn to design a font of your own. It will be way more rewarding, and will not hurt the person(s) that created the work. Chat with someone on our facebook page, learn the steps and tools, and come back when you are finished so we can celebrate with you.

Opportunities

Our goal at MakersType is to offer you a place and a community to share your typography with others and help you and your foundry develop more followers. We want to help you grow and succeed. Here are a few of the ways we are working to do that.

Licensing Links: You can set the link to whatever site you feel comfortable having potential customers check out your licensing. We also allow you to use your affiliate links to these sites, if applicable, to help you get as much credit as possible.

‘Support’ Links: If a visitor would like to show appreciation for your work by ‘buying you a cup of coffee’ (or whatever phrase you’d like), we have a PayPal link that is displayed everywhere your work is shown. 100% of this gift (aside from PayPal’s fee) goes to you.

Statistics: We are working to offer you advanced statistics on which fonts, of yours and the whole community at large, are successful, and which need to be marketed more, and hopefully start to predict annual trends in cold hard data.

Featured Designer / Featured Font: Currently selected by staff and the MakersType Co-Op, we want to highlight individual fonts and designers. The rate at which these switch will change as more and more designers and typefaces become available to us.

Revenue Share: We share a portion of our ads to contributing authors and designers who have approved Google Adsense IDs.

Community: This site was born out of a group of about 10 full and part-time font designers that decided to work together to make all of our businesses better. We have joined forces to help take down illegal use/distributions of our work, negotiate with companies on contracts, and even complain about silly customers.

How it works

If you would like to share your work on our site, please fill out this form and we’ll get back to you as soon as we are able.

Once you have been accepted, make sure you take time to put each font in the right categories so it will be easier for users to find.

Need help with bulk uploading? Having had to uploaded our catalogs to many different sites over the years, we understand the hassle this can be. So we have made a mass upload tool that we hope to improve over time. There will still be a bit work to do, but with it, we’ve been able to get our font setups done in about a minute a font. Again, we hope to make this even lower over time, but for right now, let us know in your application if this might be something you are interested in.
